MARGARET'S HOPE FTGFOP 1 MUSCATEL, 2ND FLUSH 2013, DARJEELING

Review of Tea: MARGARET'S HOPE FTGFOP 1 MUSCATEL, 2ND FLUSH 2013, DARJEELING

About the Tea Estate: Margarets Hope is a world famous name when it comes to Darjeeling Tea. Earlier known as Bara Ringtong, it was started in 1830 as a small plantation and became commercially viable in 1864 with this variety of plants from China. The current Margarets Hope Tea factory was set up in the year 1930 by Mr. John Taylor with Mr. Longsin’s help (a Chinese businessman).

The unusual name ‘Margaret’s Hope’ was given to the garden in 1927 by the then owner Mr. Cruikshank. His daughter, Margaret, enchanted by the beauty of this garden was deeply attached to the place. Before leaving for England, she promised to return but unfortunately died of a lethal tropical disease on board the ship, never to return. Thus in her memory, her father changed the name to Margaret’s Hope.

Description: :The dry leaves are a mixture of black and coppery brown, flecks of green and a good amount of silver tips. The aroma of the dry leaves is musky and mildly floral. The infusion is a coppery honey color with the distinctive "muscatel" aroma that Second Flush Darjeeling tea is so famous for. It produces a medium bodied cup with a musky sweetness, very pleasant astringency and a lovely bittersweet finish. An outstanding Second Flush tea from one of the most famous estates in Darjeeling.

Storage advice: Airtight container, preferably a tea caddy.

  • Category : black Tea
  • Flush : 2nd Flush 2013

STEEPING INSTRUCTIONS:

When infusing Second Flush Darjeeling tea, a Western-style approach is the way to go.  We recommend using approximately 2 teaspoons of leaf per 6-8 oz cup (approx 2-3 grams), water at or under 195F, and a 3-4 minute infusion time. As always, please adjust the amount of leaf, steeping time, and/or water temperature to suit your personal taste.
